I have wanted to visit Iceland ever since I became a fan of Sigur Ros in 2005. Their music videos and films are filled with the most beautiful scenery. The unspoilt remoteness of it appealed to me - it looked like a photographers dream. But it wasn't until this year that I was able to go. It didn't disappoint.
Angie and I went for a week which wasn't nearly enough to see everything we wanted. 'Area of outstanding natural beauty' isn't a phrase limited to just a few areas - the entire island is like that. I left feeling like there was so much more to explore. I'll definitely be going back soon.
Hiring a car is essential in Iceland if you want to venture away from the Reykjavik. We started there and headed south along the coast, visiting a few places en route. We then travelled inland to visit some places in the Golden Circle, before heading to the northwest and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
